about

This suite of Computer Music was finalized for an intended, late-stage CD-R release as part of the (deep breath) Reckankreuzungsklankewerkzeuge Special Projects Studio Series (#RSP-S.18) on November 22nd, 2001; but to my recollection, other than a copy or two for friends, said release never saw the light of day (I was actually surprised to find a cover-image & listing for it on Discogs just now).

Other than an alternate version of the first piece here (which was issued as "Piano Concerto #1" on Brainwashed's "Brain In The Wire" compilation) this suite of Max-MSP based algorithmic Piano Repertoire has never surfaced in its complete, unexpurgated form, and appears here in its native 24/96 resolution for the first time ever, as remastered at Lafayette Underground in early July, 2020.

At the time, I was heavily invested in the Editions Walrus legion of composers (the "Lawalree/Fesler/Oosterlynck/De Visscher" 2LP compilation was, and remains one of my all-time favorites; it's easy to hear the influence of, especially, "Suite for a Bondage Room" throughout the proceedings here) and of course, the nods to Dick Raaijmakers' "Piano-Forte" (esp. the sliding-scale, time-directionality-agnostic prepared piano sounds) are prevalent (I'd later go on to be invited to realize a version of his piece "Vier Fanfares" for a compilation a few years before he passed away) and of course I was listening to a bunch of Giuseppe Morocchi (hence the CP of "Aaffluss Raaffluss"), Abdullah Ibrahim, & Jordan De La Sierra, so the end results are somewhere between WDR/Instituut Voor Sonologie cannon-fodder & deep, impressionistic modal studies.
