about

After watching & being captivated by the majority of an 8-hour Wandelweiser marathon (along with an adjacent artist-talk by Michael Pisaro) at Paradiso in 2012, I was moved to compose a series of CD-length pieces in this mode, albeit utilizing only "questionable" audio materials distributed along a timeline in a manner consistent with the ethos & methodologies of this vein of music (which I love, and am in no way critical of; although I feel in the spirit of full disclosure it's right to point out that - very much then & now - I am mostly not in the frame of mind to absorb such methodologies fully & often listen to the work of this group of composers while preoccupied).

I had prior found a Boss DR-202 "Dr. Groove" in a Ramblas music-shop for a song & was taken aback by both the somewhat irredeemable Rodchenko-esque visual language of it along with its limited palette; it's by far the least appealing unit Roland has ever produced, and I immediately felt a mirror-image empathy towards its planned obsolescences.

The groundwork for this particular piece was laid in the Apollo Museumhotel (the same in which the first piece in the recent "Generatorss" suite was captured; possibly in the same room) utilizing a series of "hands-on" drum hits from said run through the IRCAM Audiosculpt matrix. The piece was finalized on September 2nd, 2014 & has remained untouched in the archives in the interim.

Please put it on, then immediately try to forget that you have done so, and be surprised by the sudden rising washes of 12-bit PCM data.
